Northern California Human Resource Association (NCHRA) - The local chapter of SHRM. Great local contacts and information pertinent to human resources issues specific to California and our vicinity.

Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) - The premiere HR organization's website that is updated on a daily basis. Provides a ton of HR material including about 50-60% available to non-members. Has back issues and articles from SHRM's member magazine.

California Chamber of Commerce - "...working to make California a better place to do business..." by giving private-sector employers a voice in state politics and providing a full range of California-specific products and services. Comprehensive support for California’s business leaders on key issues like health care, worker’s compensation and business taxes.

HR California - The CA Chamber of Commerce site dedicated to HR topics where you can find continually updated information on California labor law and safety compliance. Also see the CAL Chamberstore, with many helpful books, forms, and other HR tools for sale.

California Department of Industrial Relations - was established to improve working conditions for California's wage earners, and to advance opportunities for employment in California. Links to the California Labor Code, plus many supporting articles and services.

California Employee Development Department (EDD) - provides many services including job placement and referrals, unemployment insurance, disability insurance, employment and training, labor market information, payroll taxes, and more.

California Department of Fair Employment and Housing - was established to protect the people of California from unlawful discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations, and from the perpetration of acts of hate violence.

U.S. Department of Labor - administers federal labor laws that guarantee workers’ rights to safe working conditions; a minimum hourly wage and overtime pay; freedom from employment discrimination; unemployment insurance; and more.

HR Northwest - A Portland, Oregon consulting firm, this site has a wealth of useful HR and compensation information. Their monthly company Advantage Newsletter is archived and available on the site as well as a very useful HR Alert page.

WorldatWork - is a leading not-for-profit professional association dedicated to knowledge leadership in compensation, benefits and total rewards. Focuses on attracting, retaining and motivating employees. Great news source for the latest happenings in compensation.

Wild Care of Marin - A non-profit organization located in Marin County that provides care for ill, orphaned or injured wild animals, and nature/environmental education for children and adults.

Dilbert - Perceptive looks into real life inside of business today, from a humorist's point of view. Catbert may be the purrrfect archetypical HR manager.

Bay Area Compensation Association - This organization provides specialty information and training in the area of compensation.
